Affordable care act/insurance coverage

Hi,

So I work for a large childcare company in the state of pennsylvania. Not sure if I should put the name or not. I have worked the standard full time (40 hours+) for the past 3 years. I have mental health struggles, and the past 3 years have been incredibly draining. I am trying to work less hours to take care of my mental health; however, I am under my moms insurance until September – after which she and I will no longer be insured. It obviously wouldn’t be the best idea for me to have no health insurance, so I’ve been doing reading. Apparently, according to the Affordable Care Act, in the state of Pennsylvania any employee who works 30 or more hours is considered full time. A large employer (classified as any company that has at least 50 employees that work 30 hours or more), is required to offer health insurance coverage to their employees who work 30+ hours, so I was going to work 30 hours. I talked to my boss, but she told me that you have to work 40 hours to be considered full time and when I brought up the ACA she claimed it’s because we’re non profit. I googled it, and it says that non profit companies are not exempt from the ACA. So I asked HR, and they also told me you have to work 40 hours for insurance.

Is there something I’m missing? Is what they’re telling me correct? Are they not complying with the law? I’m so confused.

If what they’re telling me is incorrect, what can I do?

Advice is greatly appreciated as I truly don’t think I can handle working 40 hours, at least not currently, without tearing down my mental health. But I didn’t really want to quit this job.
