Additional Waiting period after 90 days?

I started a new job back in April and was told insurance would kick in after 90-days. I got my health insurance and my card in June and I’m trying to get my medications today but the pharmacist said my insurance isn’t active until September…. I messaged my boss and this is what he said:

“Your insurance starts September 1 because of the waiting period. You are still in the waiting period until September 1 which is the first day you can use the insurance. The waiting period is the first of month falling two months from the date you were hired. Your date of full-time employment was June 11 listed on the application, hence the September 1 effective date.”

I was hired in April, have been working full time, and I already did the 90 day waiting period – this feels like bullsh*t but I know I’m kinda panicking bc I want my medication. (I’ve had to go without it the last 5 months already) So can someone please explain this in layman’s terms to me… This just doesn’t seem right
