Access Health CT offering special enrollment period - Meriden Record-Journal

Affordable health insurance plans are available through the state’s health insurance marketplace during a special enrollment period which runs until June 30. 

The Access Health CT’s special enrollment period is for those who meet the eligibility requirements for the Covered Connecticut Program created by the State of Connecticut. Those eligible can receive healthcare coverage through Access Health CT at no cost. 

According to the official state website, here are the eligibility requirements. 

​​— A household annual income that is greater than 160%, and up to and including 175%, of the Federal Poverty Level.

— Have at least one dependent child in the household under age 19. A child who is age 18 must be a full-time student. 

— Eligibility for Advanced Premium Tax Credits and Cost Sharing Reductions.

— Use 100% of Advanced Premium Tax Credits and Cost Sharing Reductions available, along with expanded American Rescue Plan financial assistance. 

— Be enrolled in an eligible Silver Level Plan.

The two insurance companies participating in the special enrollment period are Anthem and Connecticare. Through the state’s insurance marketplace they have bronze, silver, and gold plans. 

“We understand that people have been going through a difficult time with the pandemic and with the health crisis. We wanted to help and make sure people still have low cost options,” said Caroline Lee, Access Health CT’s marketing director.

In 2019, Access Health CT issued a report on uninsured residents in Connecticut. In 2017, 87,247 or 16.5% of Hispanic and Latino residents in the state were uninsured. In 2018, 83,415 or 15.3% of Hispanic and Latino residents were uninsured.

Part of Access Health CT’s mission is to lower health disparities linked to income, environment, race, gender and disabilities.

Access Health CT offers many ways for individuals to get help. The website www.accesshealthct.com offers assistance through live chat, email, or by phone.

“If anyone needs help we’re available,” Lee said. “Our customer service department speaks over 100 languages so people can truly understand their options.”
