3rd Party "Benefits Enrollment" companies and Aflac commission

I (36M) am going through the benefits enrollment at my new company and they had a representative from a 3rd party "Benefits Enrollment" company who was assisting us with what plans to select. There were a lot of new hires like myself and my conversation with him was fast and somewhat confusing. He said it would be more beneficial to enroll in the "Silver" health insurance plan instead of the "Gold" plan and to supplement any out of pocket healthcare costs by enrolling in Aflac's short term disability plan and critical care plan. The cost per paycheck was cheaper by going this route, but when I went home and looked through all of my family's healthcare costs (Wife and two young kids) for the last year, it would have cost us more with the silver plan. The strange thing was how hard he was pushing enrollment in the Aflac plan. Being that this guy works for a 3rd party "Benefits Enrollment" company and not the company I hired on to, I think he may be making a commission by enrolling folks in Aflac. Does anyone have any "behind the curtain" info on Aflac and if they give sales commissions to 3rd party companies like a "Benefits Enrollment" company for enrolling people?
