Hi, hope this post finds those who can provide some help. My bf is going to have an ACL surgery and we went to see a surgeon and make the surgery appointment last week. During that appointment, the doctor said he need a knee brace and ask the assistant to adjust the angle so we can bring it on the surgery day.

The doctor is in his network. He has high deductible plan and max out of pocket 3000. TBH, we are expecting to pay 3000 for the surgery. But today he received a bill about the knee brace saying that 2000+ was billed, and after 800 discount, there are still $1547 that he need to pay and is not covered by insurance. Most importantly, this $1547 doesn’t count towards his deductible nor out of pocket max. That being said he needs to pay it in addition to his insurance max for the surgery. Anyone had this issue before?

I don’t understand why the insurance say it is non covered. Another question is that he hasn’t had the surgery, so can it be returned? I searched for the same thing on Amazon, same brand cost 150 at most, so we feel really fucked up by the doctor and even want to cancel the surgery with him, who knows if it will be non covered again. Thanks for the help.
