$1100/mo to insure a healthy family of 3?

Is this nuts? I switched jobs last month, and my new smaller company’s insurance premiums for my husband, son and me will be $554 per pay period for their bottom tier coverage.

My husband is a smoker but other than that we have no chronic issues, no regular meds, and have been overall generally healthy except for the occasional urgent care sickness or minor injury. My biggest medical bill was my c-section 10 years ago on Medicaid.

For regular doctor and dentist checkups, how can I justify almost half of my monthly takehome?

I looked at the marketplace, but I’m just more confused. Our income is all over the place with my husband’s work – we can be anywhere from $90-120k/yr. 42/F, 50/M, 10/M. 32504 zip code.

Husband is waiting for a new job offer and we were going to compare plans but I have to enroll (or decline) by 10/1 with my job. I’ve thought about just waiting until open enrollment in November and trying not to die until we can get reasonable coverage.

I’ve always just elected whatever but this cost is so high. Do I call like an insurance agent or something? I’ve never just not picked up employer offered insurance so I’ve never had the really figure this stuff out.
