$1000 for a Breast Ultrasound???

Last year my gyno gave me referral to go get a breast ultrasound. I went to SimoneMed, gave them my insurance, got the ultrasound, everything was normal and they didn't charge me anything day of. Yay! A month later I got a bill of $1000 and I thought "this couldn't be right?" I searched up on average how much a breast ultrasound would cost and it was in the $100~$400!!! So I called SimonMed and asked them about the bill, and they told me that they billed my health insurance but they denied the claim so I had to cover the cost. I then asked them what the cost would be if I had just paid out of pocket and they said around $200 and I asked if I could just do that but they told me that since they already went through my insurance I was stuck paying the $1000 and there's was nothing I can do. I calling my insurance, they said they couldn't do anything about it eithe. So I've just been sitting on this $1000 medical bill, ignoring all the letters and text that they send me, steaming in the unfairness of it all. Every mail they say they'll send it to collections if I don't pay by a certain date, but the date keeps getting pushed back. The bill stopped coming for a couple of months and then today, I got another one. Should I just bite the bullet and pay the $1000 at the point, take it as a lesson learned to be more cautious when I step into a doctor's office next time? Or is there something else that I can do?
