Harley-Davidson Pan America 1250 Special

American firm releases new road-biased Pan-America 1250 ST, Street Glide Ultra, new Sportster S and super-expensive CVO custom models for 2025

Harley-Davidson has held back until 2025 to announce its hot new metal for, er, 2025, which is very logical of them. Also very logical is the headline on that announcement, which is a new road-biased variant of its Pan America 1250 adventure tourer.

The Pan America 1250 ST model comes with much more tarmac-friendly running gear: there’s lowered suspension, 17-inch cast aluminium wheels and Michelin Scorcher Sport road tyres in 120/70 17 and 180/55 17 sizes.

You also now get a quickshifter as standard, and Harley says it has a slimmer, lighter profile – though the mass is still fairly chunky at 246kg ready to ride (12kg down on the standard Pan America).

Power stays at a decent 149bhp from the 1,252cc 60° DOHC 8-valve V-twin Revolution Max engine, now also Euro 5+ approved, and there’s a 47mm front fork and rear monoshock with electronically adjusted preload and manual damping adjustment both ends, both by Showa.

Travel is now 170mm at each end, compared with 191mm on the standard bike, and a set of premium Brembo monobloc calipers up front bite onto 320mm discs.

The other new models seem to be more like extensive tweaks than full revamps. The new 2025 Street Glide Ultra is claimed to combine the comfort, technology, performance and design elements introduced on the 2024 Street Glide with new features intended to support two-up, long-haul travel.

That means a Milwaukee-Eight 117 cubic inch engine (1,923cc) making 105bhp and 130ft lb of torque, pushing around a 393kg ready-to-ride chassis. It has the massive foot-long (diagonally) Harley-Davidson TFT LCD dashboard, which is a fabulous display with a full suite of navigation, communication, phone, audio, Apple and Android Car Play systems, and much more, including a pair of 50 watt 5.25” speakers in the fairing.

Meanwhile, the new Sportster S model boasts a new suspension setup front and rear, with 60 per cent more travel on the rear wheel and fully adjustable units, for preload, compression and rebound damping.

The motor stays the same 121bhp version of the Pan America’s Revolution Max 1250 engine, it weighs 228kg wet, and comes with a decent set of cornering-optimised rider aids: traction, ABS and rear wheel lift.

Harley’s also added four new super premium CVO (Custom Vehicle Operation) models: the CVO Street Glide, Road Glide, Road Glide ST and Pan America. The Road Glide ST is inspired by the wild Screamin’ Eagle Factory Team Road Glide® bikes racing in the MotoAmerica King of the Baggers championship, and features a tuned Milwaukee-Eight 121 H.O. engine making 127bhp.

It’s also loaded with carbon fibre bodywork – though still weighs in at 380kg. Dual Brembo monobloc radial calipers, fully adjustable USD 47mm front forks, and rear shock rounds off the mad spec list. Meanwhile the CVO Pan America comes with full semi-active suspension front and rear, factory fit luggage, crash bars, extra lights and loads of other kit – it’s basically the ‘Adventure’ variant of the base bike.
