2025 Ducati XDiavel V4 launched

New V4 variant of XDiavel performance cruiser released
Ducati released its first XDiavel model back in 2016, as a slightly more relaxed variant of the high-performance base cruiser model. That meant most of the same superbike-adjacent performance, with a 156bhp 1262cc V-twin motor dervied from the Panigale 1199 of the time, along with full-adjustable suspension, Brembo brakes, super-sticky Pirelli rubber and a slew of electronic performance aids.

But the XDiavel added a feet-forward riding position, and belt final drive, for a slightly more laid-back package compared to the standard, more sporty Diavel hot rod custom.
Its focus was probably more the US than the European markets, who were more likely to stick with the normal Diavel with its mid-mount footpegs and sportier handling. But the long, low XDiavel carved out a successful niche worldwide, backed up by various special edition Dark, Black Star and Nera models.

The engine had been retuned for more bottom-end grunt, and that, combined with the low-slung chassis, short seat height and long wheelbase meant it was claimed as Ducati’s fastest-accelerating bike ever, hitting 60mph from a standstill in 2.9 seconds, and exploding out of a bend when you piled on the gas.
It was very decent in the corners too: that premium Marzocchi and Sachs suspension, plus more ground clearance than you’d expect, meant it could hold onto many more sporty-looking machines on a twisty back road.

And now we have the next generation of XDiavel for 2025, with the latest V4 engine, and a full redesign, while keeping the same cruiser style. The main update is of course the engine, with the old 1260 V-twin DVT Testastretta motor finally laid to rest in favour of a special version of the V4 Granturismo powerplant.

The 1,158cc DOHC 16-valve l/c unit has the same conventional valvetrain as the Multistrada and Diavel, rather than the more exotic, expensive desmodromic system on the Panigale and Streetfighters, and also uses the cylinder-deactivation setup first seen on the Multistrada. This system switches off the rear cylinders when idling and on low-load cruising, to cut heat generation, reduce exhaust emissions and improve fuel consumption.

It’s no slouch of course, still making 168bhp with 93 ft-lb of torque, matched to a decent 229kg weight (ready to ride, without fuel), which is 6kg less than the old V-twin. Ducati’s also dropped the old belt drive setup, switching to a conventional chain final drive instead.
The chassis is all-new, with an aluminium monocoque frame design like that used across the other V4 models, rather than the old-school steel tube trellis unit. You still get a saucy single-sided swingarm though, and the same beefy 50mm fully-adjustable USD fork design.

The rear wheel sports a super-wide 240/45 Pirelli Diablo Rossi III tyre, and the brakes are upgraded to full-on Brembo Stylema superbike calipers, with 330mm discs up front – nice.
The XDiavel has the front-mount footpegs as stock, but Ducati’s come up with a new customisable solution, with two positions. So you can have the pegs in a more conventional mid-mount position under the seat for sportier rides, or kicked out the front when cruising.
The electronics package on the Diavel models has always been strong, and that’s the same here. The 2025 XDiavel gets a version of the Panigale riding aids, with a giant 6.9” colour LCD dash to access all the usual features: cornering traction control and ABS, launch control, wheelie control, power modes, up/down quickshifter, cruise control and Bluetooth phone link.

Finally, the 2025 XDiavel has had a tasty restyle, with the quad-outlet titanium end can dominating the look. A classy V4 badge on the motor marks it out as the latest model, while the optional pillion seat cover makes it into a slick single-seater. It’s also been prepared for quick fitting of optional Ducati Performance hard panniers and passenger backrest, should you want to take it on longer runs.
The new XDiavel will cost £25,995, and will be in stores in May. More info: www.ducati.com

For the first time, the XDiavel V4 is available in two colours, Burning Red and Black Lava, both metallic, which make it even more unique and whose names, which recall fire, underline the emotions awakened by this bike.
For the first time, the XDiavel is offered in red, but a different red from the iconic Ducati Red and the brilliant Racing Red.
