Why That Phone Call Can Wait
It’s pretty much common sense that you shouldn’t use your phone whilst driving. However, new and stricter rules confirm that the risk just isn’t worth it.
What could happen if I’m caught using my phone when driving?
It’s now a lot harder to offer excuses if you’re caught using your phone whilst out and about the road. The penalties are now tougher, and if you’ve kept up with our blog posts, there are a few newer rules that have been thrown into the mix, too.
So, let’s take a look at the potential punishment you could be facing if you were ever caught.
That’ll be 200 smackers and 6 points, please
At the bare minimum, you’ll be facing a fine of £200, as well as 6 points on your licence. We doubt anyone considers that easy peasy, but for anyone who thinks that punishment is a breeze, be aware.
If you’re not careful, the penalty could increase to £1000 and some may even face a driving ban.
Expect your car insurance premiums to soar, pal
Having the offence on your record isn’t good for anyone but car insurance providers. In fact, one of the most popular ones (Admiral), collected data on this. They found that on average, there tends to be an increase of 55% on a car insurance premium. In fact, in some frightful cases, it was actually pushed by an increase of 86%.
Tell us the stats
When declaring convictions on car insurance forms, it was found that mobile phone offences were in the top 10. If that doesn’t show how easy it is to get caught these days, we don’t know what does.
Males also tend to be naughtier. 4 out of 5 motorists who declared the phone conviction were men. Younger people were often found guilty more, too. The results showed that around 75% of offenders were younger than 45 years old.
