Multiple Car Insurance for all the Family

Getting the right car insurance for yourself can be a little bit intimidating at times, but what happens when you have a whole family of drivers to insure?

When your “little ones” are no longer that little any more and want a bit of freedom; that may also mean borrowing the family car. Hiding the keys won’t help either; they’ll find them sooner or later. Once you’ve lost sleep and gone grey over the borrowed car, there will be a time when that isn’t good enough, and they want their own vehicle.

Naturally, everyone has to be covered and insured to drive any vehicle but of course, the family will consist of different ages, gender and driving experience. You’ll therefore need to look at all of this to make sure you get the best insurance for all concerned (and look forward to the day they have their own car and their own insurance)!

You want to do what with my car?

As mentioned previously, there will be a time when your offspring will want to borrow your vehicle.

This is an ideal time for you to add them to your insurance as a secondary driver. Here are just a few good reasons why:

it contributes to building up their driving experienceit will add to your premiums, but it will most certainly be cheaper than them trying to pay for their own insurance as long as there are no claims made (which would affect your no claims discounts), they also build up a good insurance history of their own

If you do decide to have multiple cars under one insurance policy, choose carefully which cars the youngsters are insured to drive.

Whilst they would love to be seen cruising around town in your Audi R8 (yes, tongue very firmly lodged in cheek), there may be a better way to ensure it’s easier on the pocket. For example, try insuring them for the oldest and cheapest car you have on your drive.

Savings made on insurance could go towards the deposit for their own car. Likewise, the older and more experienced you are, the less you will pay for insurance on a new (expensive) car.

Whatever you decide, always compare costs to make sure you are getting the best deal for yourself and your family.

Thankfully, you don’t need to look very far. You’re already here!
