Here at Safely Insured, we have a little inkling to what the most popular modified car makes are with our customers.

But just because a car make is popular, does it actually mean that it’s popular within the car community?

We decided to put this to the test on our Instagram page to see which car makes got the best rankings and we were surprised by some parts of this popularity contest!  Let’s start with the lowest ranked…

Ranking the most popular modified car makes in the UK

A graphic showing the approval rating of a Vauxhall Corsa - one of the most popular car makes in the UK. The rating is the lowest in all results.

Vauxhall Corsa

Coming in at the bottom of the results is the Vauxhall Corsa. Even though we cover a lot of Corsas, this was the lowest ranking amongst all rankings out of all popular modified car makes.

We are not surprised that a lot of people go for a Corsa, what with its wide range of engine options when it comes to performance gains, but this overwhelmingly bad rep did surprise us…

Now, Safely Insured will always remain impartial, and we are sure everyone who voted had their opinions… And that’s all we’ll say on it!

Mazda MX-5

The nifty lightweight two-passenger roadster was one of the under-performers when it came to popularity.

Even though it’s the bestselling two-seat convertible sports car in history, maybe it’s just not practical enough for the sad and rainy UK!

Ford Focus

Here was another surprise! Despite being one of the most popular cars we cover, the Ford Focus produced a very middle of the road response!

Now we love the Focus for having one of the most practical bases for fantastic mods, but perhaps it’s too much of a safe bet… What do you think?  Let us know in the comments!

Toyota GT86

Another middle of the road result for the Toyota GT86! An under performer compared to other sports cars we asked about.

Now we’ve encountered many GT86’s that have taken our breath away. For the lover of the classic sports cars, the GT86 is perfect to adjust to make it your own!

Honda Civic

Obviously popular with those car enthusiasts who prefer Japanese made cars! There’s a lot of variety in their models over the years, and the engines are one of the easiest to modify.

Clearly they’re not for everyone though as they produced only a slightly better than average rating.

VW Golf

The Golf is loved by so many members of the car community. Sometimes it’s a starter car for some, or for others, it is the car.

What we love about cars like the VW Golf is that there is such a large array of parts and tuning options for them. Which means we get to see such a variety of fantastic cars and to appreciate the creativity in the car community.

BMW M3

Obviously BMW’s are very popular in the car community and in this case, our followers ranked it better than average!

We’re not actually very surprised about this one, as the BMW M3 serves as a versatile base for both cosmetic and performance mods. The parts are accessible and easy to install, which is a plus for all car modifiers!

Nissan 200SX

A timeless classic, clearly according to the results! We imagine the lovers of the Nissan 200SX also love nothing more than a good track day where they can let loose.

Understated but powerful, we’re sure that’s why the Nissan 200sx reached one of the best ratings of the lot.

A graphic showing the approval rating of a Subaru Impreza - it is a better than average score.

Subaru Impreza

The Subaru Impreza did perform above average. Maybe that’s due to its high-performance nature that it offers, or the fact it’s more ‘family-friendly’ with its five doors! Power and practicality? Say no more.

Either way, we’re sure it’s a lot of fun to modify, and that’s why it scored high in this test.

A graphic showing the approval rating of a Mistubishi Evo - it is a better than average score.

Mistubishi Evo

For those that have a soft spot for rally driving, the Mistubishi Evo is an absolute classic.

It’s no surprise that the Evo scored high across the board because it’s in a league of it’s own! There’s no other car make like it and that’s why we love it too!

What do you think of these results? Did any surprise you? Turns out that even the most ‘popular’ modified car makes aren’t free from scrutiny!
