Is this possible?
My bio dad and I don’t have a relationship. My sister is staying with him in a different state—partly to move out of her hometown, partly because of his health. He’s now dealing with serious health issues, and while she keeps me updated, I don’t feel much about it.
Here’s where the potential bitterness comes in: I want to take out a term life policy on him. He has nothing, and my sister can’t afford funeral costs or related expenses. It’s not that he’s dying right now, but he’s is having some health issues consistent with not caring for high blood pressure and alcoholism. The problem is, he would have to consent and sign off on it since you legally can’t take out an insurance policy on someone without their knowledge (this is what I have googled).
I remember the judge telling me I should do this since he defaulted on child support. That debt was owed to my mom, not me, and he walked away from it. I still want those funds. I’d cover the funeral costs, but his other debts aren’t my concern.
What are my options in this case?
