My father died 2 months ago, insurance is claiming my mother (his ex wife) who took out the policy didn’t disclose prexisting conditions.

Hello,

My father passed in December in a fairly tragic fashion. He was a great dad until I hit puberty and life started happening, I miss him a lot.

He was an EXTREME alcoholic who lived by himself. One night for whatever reason, In 10 degree weather he decided to go outside in boxers and a tee shirt. He crawled under a fence in his backyard & died trying to get back into his yard (his backyard was adjacent to a baseball field). He actually crawled roughly 300 feet along the fence trying to get out. He was too weak to climb it. Really sad.

Anyway my mom took out a life insurance policy on him in 2020 & didn’t disclose that he was an alcoholic or had seizures, or took a few other prescribed-prescription drugs. Now, the insurance company is asking my mom to visit my father’s last doctor & have him fill out some kinda form. I assume the insurance company needs a doctors note to invalidate the policy.

Has anyone been in this type of situation? What constitutes a pre existing condition & what do you think the insurance companies’ strategy is?

Thanks team! I’m stumped
