Child of deceased, policy access help

Hello,

I am seeking some general advice on how one would go about accessing the contents of a deceased parents life insurance policy, that was paid out 22 years ago.

I have just learnt that my father, who passed away in 2003 when I was 9, had a life insurance policy that was paid out to my mother. My mother has historically made many poor financial decisions and I have witnessed multplie large inheritances disappear over the span of a few years through negligent spending. I don’t approach this with the hope of getting anything out of it financially, I just want to know what my father intended when he took out this policy becausing finding out about it so long after the fact, by chance, leads me to believe this information was intentionally witheld from me.

I don’t have the slightest hint of what company this policy could have been with or any detail that could provide direction. My mother hasn’t kept any records relating to my father and recalls nothing.

If anyone on this subreddit could provide some general understanding on how to go about finding and accessing this information, it would be greatly appreciated.
