Am I not understanding something?
I live in "upstate" NY. My husband owns an S Corp.
I maybe estimate our income at about 150k?
NYS of health says we qualify for $199 in subsidy per month for both of us combined for 2025. I decided not to include it to avoid owing more if our income grows. We are currently paying roughly $1670 a month for a bronze HDHP for a couple. It isn't the cheapest bronze plan, but the cheapest is Ambetter Fidelis Bronze which no doctors really take here.
Im currently pregnant, due in March. I checked the marketplace to estimate how much it would cost to add baby to our plan, bringing our total to a whopping $2350/ month WITH subsidies. For a BRONZE PLAN. The absolutely cheapest bronze plan would be $1660/month.
I thought subsidies were based off of silver level? I haven't even ventured that far through the list since bronze is going to cost us $20-25k+ a year in premiums alone. Something just doesn't seem to be adding up here? Am I making a mistake somewhere? Last year, we paid 14k in insurance premiums, if it is relevant.
