Fuelling Around podcast: Formula 1 reporter Jennie Gow on life in the pit lane

Jennie Gow

Television presenter and BBC’s Formula 1 pit lane reporter Jennie Gow appears on the award-winning podcast Fuelling Around to discuss this season’s Formula 1 Drivers’ Championship, her career and what it’s like working in the sport.

Gow has been working as a broadcaster since 2001 when she joined BBC Solent, and has since gone on to work for some of the country’s biggest channels such as Sky Sports, Channel 4 and BBC Radio 5 Live.
The Formula 1 personality sat down with Jason Plato and Dave Vitty to discuss life in the paddocks and her thoughts on this season’s title race.

Jennie Gow discusses how the environment has changed in F1’s pit lane since Drive to Survive

During her chat with the boys, Gow detailed her role with 5 Live and how the BBC would like her to report on what is going on in the pit lane across each race weekend, and how Netflix’s Drive to Survive has changed the feeling behind the scenes.

“With 5 Live and the BBC, they don’t want something too specific or technical (to report on),” Gow revealed.

“They want it to be able to be digested by everyone. So I go in with that role of being the middle-man, of lifting the curtain on what I can see, and showing the listener what they would be able to hear and see if they were in my boots.

“Not everyone can go in that pit lane, I’m very lucky to do that, and as I say, it’s a real privilege.

“I think the environment in the paddock has changed since the effect of Drive to Survive has filtered through, and Liberty Media really getting a grip of the ownership, and what they want to do and achieve with it.

“But I think if you go back in time, when I first started, I didn’t feel like I should be there, and certainly not in a pit lane!”
