Are you ready to get started using your Independence Blue Cross (Independence) health plan? I’m here to guide you through your first steps as a new a member, so you’re making the most of your Independence health plan. Use this information to help you:

Find the care you need
Get personalized support

1. Register for ibx.com

The first thing you should do is register for ibx.com. All the benefits information you need is right at your fingertips. Registration only takes a few minutes — be sure to have your member ID number handy. And if you’re a new member, you can register up to 15 days before your coverage starts.

2. Log in at ibx.com

We designed ibx.com with our members in mind, so that the information and tools you need most are front and center on your personalized home page. Depending on your specific health plan, logging in allows you to:

View, print, share, or order a new ID card
Find a doctor or hospital
Check recent claims
Change your primary care physician
Pay a bill and see when the next one is due
Reach your health goals with Achieve Well-being tools
See important notifications and health messages
Access value-added programs like On To Better Health for emotional well-being support and The College Tuition Benefit® for financial health

3. Make your first payment

If you buy your health plan directly through Independence, you need to make your first payment before you can begin using your benefits. We offer several convenient ways to pay your bill.

Some members may need to make their first payment before they receive their member ID card(s). Do you need your member ID card(s) quickly after making your first payment? Log in at ibx.com and select the Print, Send, or View All option under the image of your ID card.

4. Connect with us by email or text

Sign up to get personalized health screening reminders, important plan notifications, and alerts about member-exclusive savings and discounts. Visit ibx.com/getconnected and choose to receive messages by text, email, or both.

5. Find a doctor in your network

When you need to find an in-network doctor or other health care provider near you, our Find a Doctor tool makes it easy. Be sure to enter your location, select your health plan, and choose how you want to search (for example, by doctor name, specialty, or type of provider).

If you have a Keystone Health Plan East HMO, HMO Proactive, or POS health plan, remember that you need to choose a primary care physician (PCP). To select or change your PCP, log in at ibx.com and use the link on the home page under My Primary Care Physician.

6. Register for telemedicine from MDLIVE®

Need to talk to a doctor fast? Save time and money by avoiding the ER or urgent care when it’s not an emergency. Skip the waiting room, and talk to a doctor through telemedicine instead. With telemedicine from MDLIVE, you can reach a board-certified doctor by video chat or phone — anytime, anywhere in the U.S.

Use your member ID number to activate your MDLIVE account before you get sick. Once you’ve activated your account, you’re just minutes away from a virtual visit, diagnosis, and any necessary prescriptions sent to your pharmacy.

7. Achieve your health goals and save money

Your health and well-being goals are unique to you. Use our personalized Achieve Well-being tools to make it easier to reach your goals, whether you’re looking to eat healthier, cope with stress better, be more active, manage a chronic condition, or just get some more sleep. Start by completing your Well-being Profile, which you can access when you log in at ibx.com under the Health & Well-being menu at the top.
