ChatGPT can help you pick your PPO/CDHP!

I hate making spreadsheets. I use my benefits enough that I have to plan ahead to see which plan is the more economical choice. If that's not you, this is a useless post to read.

tl;dr I almost opted for the higher premium plan just because "it'll protect me better in case something happens right??" Notttt necessarily. I plugged in my benefits info and it gave me great breakdowns for different scenarios I threw at it.

I fed it what my average copay is for the year, and knowing I need to get some imaging done, fed it the estimated cost (there was a lot of research done, but irrelevant for this convo). The breakdown was so clear and gave me enough confident to choose the lower premium plan. For context, my lower plan doesn't cover imaging, but by paying out of pocket for imaging, I save more (~$700) then paying a higher premium where imaging is covered. I also plugged in $xx,xxx for potential "uh ohs" that might happen. It did the break down of that as well, and for me, the higher plan didn't save me that much more in the grand scheme of things. I would have been throwing away money for events that statistically isn't likely to happen. And if it did happen, the OOP cost is overall not that big of a difference given the uh oh cost.

All that's to say, if insurance makes you pull your hair out. Try using chatGPT. The more information you can feed it (averages of your annual copay, potential procedures, etc) and less broad, the more helpful it'll be. Respectfully, it has been 100x more helpful than my HR people and third party benefits advocators who are only able to offer me canned answers that get me nowhere.

The paid version is a lot better. If you have chatGPT it lets you sample it for a couple interactions a day, but the free one isn't that bad, that's what I use. The answers just aren't as in-depth.
