Dermatologist Rip-off
Hi guys, I am new to the US and went to my school's primary health care for skin problem. They referred me to a specialist (dermatologist). I scheduled an appointment with the dermatologist which lasted 20 minutes and I was given the prescription I wanted. Later I was billed 300$, which came surprising to me as I was not familiar with the health system in the US, and the medication only costs $10 for a monthly supply. Today, I requested a medication refill and got a message from the specialist's nurse that they will give me a refill but I need to schedule a second 'check-in' appointment again. I guess is intended so that the dermatologist could check how well I've been responding to the medication so that they could continue giving me the medication. I don't just want to be ripped off of $300 for a $10 appointment for a $10/mo supply of medication. Is this how the health care here works and what should I do? Thank you so much in advance!
