Best way to find out general costs for lab tests?
So I am getting serveral blood tests done for some symptoms that I am experiencing. It is going to be about 15 tests done, like iron, thyroid panel, vitamin d test and so on. I want to figure out the best way to get the closest price I should be expecting.
My provider has given me the lab order with all the CPT codes. I used my insurance portal to get the prices but I am not sure if that is enough based on some of the research I have done. For example, most people say that Vitamin D is not covered and will cost quite a bit, but my insurance is saying that the cost will be about $20 for an in-network lab. Not sure if that is right.
I called my insurance but I don’t really trust the information they gave me. The agent said I will only have to pay the co-payment even though I have not met my deductible yet. My benefits don’t mention anything about the deductible not applying for lab tests.
What exactly does it mean when a lab test is not covered by insurance? Will I have to pay the insane direct prices labs offer or do I still get the discounted rate provided by my insurance?
