Switching from Medicaid to corporate insurance

We’ve been on Medicaid for the past year while my husband was in school and I’ve been homeschooling our son. Our 2024 annual income has been zero thus far, but my husband just landed a job that makes $130,000/year and will start at the end of this month.

Our son is medically complex and is currently on a mostly liquid diet. His formula costs about $2,000/month, and is fully covered by Medicaid. He also has a few upcoming medical appointments.

If we sign up for insurance through my husband’s employer, we will likely meet the deductible within the first month or two. Unfortunately, that puts us right at the start of the year, where we’d have to start the deductible all over again if I understand that correctly.

So my question is this- can we stay on Medicaid until the end of the year? I honestly have no idea how that works. Or if not, does it make sense to enroll in the lowest deductible plan now and then switch to a higher deductible plan for next year? I’m kind of clueless when it comes to insurance, so any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!!
