Short version: The school screwed up and wants to backdate my insurance to Sept 1. They want me to sign a document saying I was hired on July 17th but I wasn’t really hired until Sept 18th. The document also says I would have signed it on 9/1/2024. I went to urgent care in September when I didn’t have insurance which I think why they are trying to put it to Sept 1. Seems like that is probably not legal

Long Story: I work for a school corporation. I left from being a teacher at the end of the school year to go into Maintenance, which is what my job was before. They decided not to have the position as the school year ended so I was out of a job I was promised. In September they decided to hire for the job again and I got it. In that time I was paid until mid August which I knew was wrong so I contacted them. They had forgotten to take me off the payroll and I wasn’t supposed to get paid for any of July as well which most places teachers who leave get payed for the whole summer. They backdated the insurance to June 30th so by the time I saw that I was paid for too long I had passed the date for COBRA. I started work on the 18th of September and on the 21st I had to go to urgent care for an abscess. I don’t think it is fully gone so I inquired about getting my insurance for October instead of November like they planned to since I had to pay several thousand back and had this medical bill as well, plus I was a returning employee.

I think they feel bad and are trying to put September as my start of insurance. When I went to urgent care I already told them I didn’t have insurance so I don’t think I could get that changed anyways. They want me to sign a document saying I was hired on July 17th but I wasn’t really hired until Sept 18th. The document also says I would have signed it on 9/1/2024. It feels like fraud and I am not sure I am comfortable with that when the premiums from Sept would be close to the $500 something urgent care and nearly $400 wound culture bills. Does this sound like insurance fraud?
