Best health insurance option not covered through work

I’m at a job I hate, and I was offered a bartender position without benefits. I want to do it short term while I look for a long term position I’ll actually enjoy, without the pressure of being miserable every day at my job.

I’ve been looking at Obamacare and short term health insurance. Obamacare is too expensive, and I’m confused about coverage for surgery under short term.

Before this year, I wouldn’t have been concerned about just having basic health insurance that covers doctor’s visits and such, but earlier this year, I was diagnosed with a bone tumor. I had to have surgery that cost $200,000. Obviously, this would have been a problem without insurance. Luckily, my out of pocket maximum was 3,000.

There is a 30% chance it grows back, though my recent follow up didn’t show any signs of that thankfully. But…I don’t want to take a gamble when the stakes are this high.

What is a comparable short term health insurance plan if one exists?
