Don’t understand what’s happening

I received anesthesia to undergo an egg retrieval for IVF. The anesthesia company collects $600 from each patient prior to the procedure.

Then- if you have insurance- they bill your insurance. The claim went through as in-network for me and my EOB showed my responsibility as $40. They paid the company a little over $400. My insurance company called them and got no response. I followed up and was told that my insurance company didn’t do it right and they needed to pay more and that I don’t get any of the $600 back. They also said I won’t see the $600 on my out of network deductible because it’s a contracted cash pay price.

Here’s the kicker- other patients of the clinic have gotten refunds. Some get the run around and give up. For those that don’t have insurance, they just pay the $600 and that’s that.

I’m so confused about what I need to do or what questions I need to be asking. Or if I need to just let it go. I hate that every patient is getting dodgy answers and it’s not like we can shop around for anesthesia.
