Axis Insurance Managers has appointed Shane Neil (pictured) as senior vice president of corporate development for Eastern Canada.

With over 20 years of experience in insurance, Neil brings substantial expertise in underwriting, leadership, and strategic growth to the full-service brokerage.

Neil’s career began at Chubb as an underwriting trainee, where he focused on clients in technology and life sciences. He has since held several leadership roles, including co-founding a branch office for a managing general agent.

The key arrival’s background covers areas like property & casualty, professional liability, fleet/IRCA, and garage insurance.

Before joining Axis Insurance, Neil was instrumental in a regional transformation at Economical Insurance, where he enhanced profitability, broker relationships, and service standards.

In his new role, Neil will spearhead growth initiatives in Eastern Canada, emphasizing talent recruitment, partnerships, and brokerage acquisitions.

The SVP appointment comes on the heels of Axis Insurance’s swoop for Calgary-based property & casualty brokerage Baker Insurance, which was set up in 1976 before it was rebranded in 2006 to its current name following its sale to Ed Baker.

The acquired business specializes in both corporate and private asset protection and offers risk assessments, claims management, operational reviews, as well as surety bonds and inland marine insurance.

The transaction was part of Axis Insurance’s strategy to expand its footprint in the region while enhancing its ability to deliver risk management solutions.
