What Car Should Be Turned Into A Ute?

While it may be tough to describe to your parents, significant others or friends who don’t care about cars, there’s something just plain cool about a ute. These car-based trucks once roamed the streets of the United States, but now they’re mainly relegated to South America and Australia, and even there are starting to fall out of favor against traditional pickup trucks. For today’s question, I want to know what car you wish would have a ute variant.

The first car that came to my mind for a dream scenario ute conversion is the Lucid Air. It’s probably the best all-around EV you can buy right now, with really engaging handling, excellent range and efficiency, super fast charging and a fantastic design inside and out. The existence of the absurdly good 1,234-hp Sapphire model (pictured) doesn’t hurt, either.

Now imagine the Air as a ute. It would be awesome! OK, it probably wouldn’t be as aerodynamic as the Air sedan, but still, thanks to Lucid’s world-class powertrain it would still have a longer range than basically any other EV. I bet Lucid’s engineers would come up with some cool storage solutions in the bed, and it would surely look gorgeous.

I’ll throw it over to you now, dear Jalopnik reader. What car do you think should get the ute treatment? Let us know in the comments below and I’ll round up the best answers later this week.
