Family deductible 3x the individual on a two person plan?

Hi! I hope I chose the right tag 😅

I’m trying to understand how the extra 1,500 of my family deductible is met. My partner has BCBS-IL PPO+, I am his dependent (spouse) and our individual deductibles are 1,500 each with a 4,500 family deductible. It’s just the two of us on the plan.

I understand that as i pay my 1500, it is also applied to the family deductible. I also understand that I pay co-insurance after I meet my individual deductible.

What I’m confused about is why our family deductible is 3x the individual instead of 2x? What happens to the remaining 1500 of family deductible if we both meet our individual? Do either of us become responsible for the remaining 1500 at any point?

I had called insurance earlier because I was confused about family/individual but the person I spoke with seemed pretty annoyed at my existence and I forgot the ask why the family deductible is 3x 🙃 but I DID ask if it was aggregate or embedded and they said “”uh… probably embedded because you have the prescription coverage” which also didn’t make sense to me, but okay.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated ❤️
