This 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee is pretty clean. It’s an Overland trim, which was one trim down from fully loaded. This means it has features like heated and cooled seats, an Alpine audio system and a panoramic roof. And if it looks near showroom fresh, it should: this example has just 417 miles on it. Other than that, there’s nothing special about it. It doesn’t even have a Hemi V8; it’s powered by Chrysler’s Pentastar 3.6-liter V6.

Apparently though it having just 417 miles on it means something to someone as the winning bidder on the auction paid $32,503. This wasn’t the first time someone was willing to pay that much either. Just two weeks ago on September 11, the same Grand Cherokee sold for $30,250. Before you go thinking it’s a flip — which wouldn’t be surprising at all — it wasn’t. The car’s description says that the sale on the 11th didn’t go through as “the winning bidder failed to follow through with their commitment to purchase.” It had nothing to do with the Jeep itself, the person just backed out of the sale, resulting in it being re-listed — and won — a second time. Still a wild buy though.

That $32,503 price is less than its original MSRP of $38,795 ($54,292 in 2024 dollars), but still. This isn’t a rare special edition or a Grand Cherokee with some obscure option package that was only offered for two months during a single model year. This is an SUV that Stellantis made a lot of during its decade of production. The buyer could have purchased a brand new Jeep with that kind of money. Jeep’s recent sales slow down means dealer inventories are high and discounts are huge because dealers want to move metal. A Jeep dealer in Ventura, California has 89 Grand Cherokees in stock. Each one has massive discounts of $8-$10,000 off sticker.
