Elon Musk’s Far-Right Turn Isn't Stopping His Employees From Donating To Kamala Harris

Elon Musk has a lot of influence over the companies he heads, but apparently, it is not enough to keep his employees from donating to Kamala Harris’ campaign despite his militant support of former President Donald Trump.

OpenSecret, a nonpartisan nonprofit that tracks U.S. campaign contributions and lobbying data, found that – while they weren’t exactly huge sums of money – employees at Musk’s companies like Tesla, SpaceX and X are donating more money to Harris’ presidential campaign than Trump’s, Reuters reports. It clearly shows that even though Musk is doing everything he can legally do to boost Trump’s campaign and defeat the “woke mind virus,” the people who work for him aren’t buying it.

Here’s how the campaign donation numbers break down, according to Reuters:

Workers at Tesla have contributed $42,824 to Harris’ presidential campaign versus $24,840 to Trump’s campaign, according to OpenSecrets[.]

Employees at Musk’s rocket company SpaceX have donated $34,526 to Harris versus $7,652 to Trump. Employees at the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, have donated $13,213 to Harris versus less than $500 to Trump.

While the news is a bit surprising, it isn’t exactly groundbreaking. Many of Musk’s employees (some of who he tries to have children with) are based in the Communist State of California, after all. That may be why he’s moved Tesla out of Fremont, California for Austin, Texas. He’s threatened to do similar things with X and SpaceX because of California’s gender-identity law that he has called the “last straw.” Analysts say this would hurt these companies because they’d be losing out on potential talent in California, but I cannot imagine Musk cares very much. It’s all about defeating woke or whatever.

Musk’s politics have shifted violently to the right since he backed President Joe Biden’s campaign back in 2020. He’s now buddied up with Trump so closely that Trump says if he’s elected, Musk will be appointed to lead a government efficiency commission. Since Trump’s first assassination attempt in Pennsylvania back in July, Musk has pledged his undying support of the former president, Trump has called him “weird,” the Secret Service is probing him over suggesting Biden and Harris should be assassinated and Tesla sales have dropped. It’s been a strange few months.
