Porsche-On-Porsche Crash On Angeles Crest Rips Engine From 911

Another day, another horrible situation on Angeles Crest. The highway is home to plenty of car culture, including some truly gorgeous builds, as well as more than its fair share of deadly crashes and near-misses. In this latest crash, a Porsche 911 GT3 managed to entirely rip the engine out of another, lesser 911, leading us all to wonder: When are we going to stop this?

The Special Enforcement Bureau of the Los Angeles County Sherriff’s Department shared video of the crash’s aftermath on Twitter earlier this week, showing both cars ruined and strewn across the road. The videos also included a helicopter flying in with “tactical medics” — presumably for the occupants of both vehicles.

Despite the damage to the GT3 RS in the videos, it doesn’t appear to have its airbags deployed the way the other 911 does. Perhaps the impact was enough of a glancing blow not to trigger them, or maybe the car’s steering wheel had been replaced with a race wheel that lacks an airbag altogether. Right now, it’s unclear.

Police didn’t expand on any further details of the accident, but it seems like a pretty clear case of one or both drivers running out of skill. High-speed drivers are known to cut the double yellow line on Angeles Crest, weaving their way through the canyons at incredible speeds without consideration for the hikers, cyclists, and regular cars on the road, and this is simply what happens when that behavior gets out of hand. People crash. If they’re lucky, they survive.

Angeles Crest is not a race track. It’s a regular road full of tight, low-visibility corners, around which any number of hazards could be waiting. Stop driving like an asshole on it before you get hurt — or hurt someone else.
