This 2JZ-Swapped 1993 Volvo 240 DL Is A 500-Horsepower Sleeper Wagon

Volvo held a very stuffy public image for decades before it introduced any R or Polestar models, with its primary selling points being safety and comfort. The 240 wagon is arguably the most iconic Volvo, and a perfect example of the brand’s pragmatism, but this 1993 Volvo 240 Wagon that’s listed for sale on BringATrailer digresses from that in a big and exciting way. It’s powered by none other than Toyota’s legendary turbocharged 2JZ-GTE 3.0-liter inline-six attached to a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. This isn’t some shitbox custom that’s held together with shoelaces and a prayer, this is a seriously legit 500 horsepower wagon that checks all the boxes. Click here to check out the listing.

Looking at the Scotia Blue wagon from the outside, it’s obvious that it’s not a stock 240 wagon. It’s lowered and on aftermarket wheels, but aside from those two giveaways, there’s no immediate indication of the full-fat performance machine that this wagon is. The aggressive stance comes courtesy of coilovers and upgraded strut mounts, torque rods, trailing arms, and sway bar end links. The 2J is boosted by an intercooled BorgWarner S366 turbocharger with vented wastegates and a tubular exhaust manifold. It has a racing ECU, a twin-disc clutch kit, and a 3.5-inch exhaust system with an electronically controlled valved muffler, and it’s got brakes from a Porsche Cayenne. It even has traction control and air conditioning.

Wicked fast yet civilized 2JZ powered Volvo 240 Wagon

When I say it’s a full-fat build, I mean if it was a meal, it would be fried in flavorful bacon grease, smothered in country gravy, and topped with cheese. No calorie counting was involved in the customization of this monster wagon, the focus was on creating the most flavorful and desirable Volvo ever. Inside, it’s got a digital dashboard, Dynamat under the carpets, a Kenwood head unit with upgraded speakers, and custom black cloth upholstery on the rear seats to match the Recaro buckets up front. It has all the makings of a proper restomod, and might be the coolest thing this side of a Singer product. The video posted by the seller proves how rad this 500 horsepower Swedish long-roof brick is. Whomever wins this auction will be one lucky soul.
