New Insurance won’t cover out of network Emergency Care? (United HealthCare Choice Plus)

Hi all,

I am self-employed and for a while delayed on getting health insurance. I finally bit the bullet and just got United Health Care Choice Plus with Medguard III, PremierAdvantage, and accident protector.

I don't really go to the doctor, so my main concern was coverage in case something crazy happens like I get hit by a car and have to go to the hospital. I was told by the agent that for emergency services the max deductible I'd pay is $3000 and then everything else would be covered. I was then told that certain hospitals for emergency care are in network and others are out of network.

That didn't make sense to me. I'll only get coverage if I just happen to go to a hospital that is in-network? I would surely be able to fight this right if I was ever in a situation where i needed to be rushed to the nearest emergency care?

Does anyone have experience with this plan? Thank you.
