Therapist charging insurance under a different provider?

Hi all, I’m doing the intake forms for a therapist I found. She seems very knowledgeable and much better than therapists I have worked with in the past. As a part of intake she recommended reaching out to my insurance, to ensure I was covered. However, she told me she charges insurance through another provider, and gave me his name, NPI, and CPT code to give to my insurance provider. Is this okay? Is this considered fraud? I’m not finding anything clear on Google. She seems very legitimate in every other way, and finding a therapist is tough these days so it makes me nervous. If it’s unknown/unclear if this is legal, what is my potential personal liability in this situation? I messaged her asking for clarification on the billing situation, so hopefully she can provide an explanation. But I don’t want to end up in hot water over this. Thanks in advance.

Edit: got a response from her stating: “Im a social worker and upload NASW (national addiction of social workers) ethical guidelines.

Im considered an associate and cannot bill insurance directly but legally through insurance paneled provider”

This pass the sniff test?
