NYS Essential plan – how can I get the subsidy?

Hi all. I’m 30/F in westchester, NY. I used to live in FL and worked full time and had regular insurance etc.

I moved home in 2022 to become a full-time caregiver for my parents who were sick. One of them passed away at the beginning of this year. When I had moved home, I got on Medicaid because I had no income.

Since the passing of my father, and my mom recovered from her cancer, I have been able to start working. However, this year, I still have not worked enough to get over the threshold for Medicaid. I’m getting a lot of mental health treatment. However, by the end of this year, I think I will be able to get over the threshold and start working full-time.

Another wrench in my situation that is confusing me for health insurance is that when my father passed away, I became an owner of property that did not have any profit in 2024, however, there may be some in in 2025, but I have no idea what that will be or what it will look like. The actual property managers are not sure what will happen in 2025 because the property had burned and operated at a loss through 2024.

Anyways, I think my work income in the next few months will jump from about $20,000 to maybe between 30-35. I know you can join the essential plan anytime, but is there an enrollment period for getting the subsidy off of a plan that I can pay for? I have a family member who could help me with the premium, but I really don’t think I can afford a regular plan if I don’t do the essential.
