Retroactively billing insurance?
I turned 26 recently and my insurance plan with my parents was terminated at the end of the month. I’ve signed up for health insurance through my employer but was told they’re running a couple weeks behind – so not sure when I’ll actually have coverage.
I refilled all my meds and picked them up last week (last week of August). I noticed over the weekend that one of prescriptions was only partially filled. From what I can tell on the app, I had an auto refill that was filled (not picked up), but I had an appointment where my provider upped my dose, but bc the medication only comes in 50 & 100 mg tablet and I was prescribed 150mg daily, she just called in 90 50mg tablets. It showed on my app it was ready, but they only gave me the original prescription of 30 50mg. They’re now saying they can’t fill the remaining amount due to the fact that my insurance is now expired.
Can they retroactively bill the insurance given that this prescription was called in & attempted to be picked up before my coverage ended? This seems like a pharmacy mistake b/c I was told the updated prescription was ready but the tech gave me the old one.
