Question about insurance while on temporary disability.

I've been trying to get a real answer via Google, but I'm getting nowhere. I'm really hoping someone here can help me out.

I might have to get a major surgery soon, one that has a recovery time of up to six months. Getting an mri next week and then doctor consults. So I'll know for sure in 2-3 weeks hopefully.

I know that I'll have to go on temporary disability while I'm recovering. Thankfully I'm in NJ, and the state has a pretty good temp disability program. What I can't figure out is what do I do about medical insurance during that period?

I have insurance through my employer. They pay 80% of the premium. My wife and child are also covered through my insurance. I pay 100% of the premium for them. My wife's job offers insurance, but it's not good so we just went with mine.

What are my options here? My company doesn't really have an official HR person, so there's on one there that I can get a straight answer from. I'm worried that my medical problem is going to end up costing my family our medical coverage, and I don't think I can pay to cover three people while also taking the reduced income of disability.
