CANADA: MANULIFE. My mom has thyroid cancer
Hello. I tried looking for canada health insurance groups but no luck unfortunately.
So a couple days ago, we found out that my mom has thyroid cancer. It said to be curable but that’s coming from our family doctor, they still have to request and set up a whole thing for a specialist and then surgery etc.
My question is, under “manulife critical illness” it states, No benefit will be payable if you suffer a covered condition that results directly or indirectly from, or is in any way associated with: • Intentional use or intake of any prescription drug, or narcotics other than instructed by a physician
There was more but that entire text is related to my question, so prior to us finding out my mom was perscribed by a pharmacist to take ozempics. I’m not entirely sure if it was for a medical reason but it wasn’t ran through by our family doctor or any DR for that matter.
From my understanding and hopefully you guys too, it’s saying that they will not cover her if her ozempic is related to thyroid cancer?
Those two things are not related at all + this runs in out family but idk it’s a bit confusing, i’m starting my 2nd year of UNI away from family so i’m trying to support them as much as I can especially having immigrant parents.
We’re from Alberta also, and it said that pharmacists are able to perscribe things without a DR.
Pls help. Mom is overwhelmed and overthinking things. Thank you in advance
