About a month ago I had to visit ER due to some really bad lower back pain I have because of two herniated discs. I checked in at the hospital around 2200 and left the hospital at 0100. After the doctor checked up on me and while I was still at the hospital, I was told my copay was 150 and that I could pay that amount right away or they could send me a bill later so I decided to pay it at that moment. They never mentioned I was going to be charged twice as if it was considered a two day visit. Now I’m getting an statement from the hospital saying that I still owe 150 dollars. When I checked the EOB on my insurance account, I noticed that I’m being charged from emergency room twice, one charge on July 17th and another on July 18th. Can hospitals do this? This was a single visit even tho it spanned over midnight. I would say for almost 2.5 hours I had to stay at the waiting room for a doctor to check on me while the actual check up only lasted 15 minutes and another 15 minutes waiting for my prescription. I’ve never heard that you have to pay for a copay twice on a single visit.
