Hello, like many others on this thread I have gotten completely screwed by my medical providers and insurance. I'm just looking for some advise on steps I could take to fight this bill or at least lower it. In March, I had a lot of bloodwork done and eventually a bone marrow biopsy. I received bills from my doctor and a couple labs to the tune of about 2-3k. I scraped money together and paid it all. Fast forward to today when I get a 3500 bill from another lab called Pathgroup. It appears to be in network and this is what I still owe after insurance. Additionally, they did another lab for 9k that my insurance has denied because it was not pre-approved. I'm just not sure how my doctor could have requested all of this without my approval of some sort. I'm sure it's in the fine print in one of the 30 pages I sign everytime I go, but this is seriously corrupt to me. Also, why is my insurance not contacted for pre-approval of a procedure if it's required? They said next time I should do that, but I don't even know the procedures being requested?! And with the 9k being denied, my maximum out of pocket of 10k doesnt even save me here?! Anyways, I'm sure I'm one in a million here, but just hoping someone can provide guidance on what steps I should take. Call my doctors billing department? The labs? My health insurance? A lawyer?
