I had an issue with my Independence Blue Cross policy regarding payments in Pennsylvania. It is a family plan and I am going through a divorce. I got a new job which provided insurance so I called to remove myself from the family plan–all others stayed on the plan. The insurance plan kept billing the original amount and not crediting the payments that were made and I had to call several times to sort it out.

I am still in charge of paying the bills and somehow missed paying the bill for August. I had been battling with the insurance company and did not pay July since I thought I had enough credit to cover it. I just found the pill–unpaid– and spent a long time making sure the amount was correct. They have finally sorted it all out but we still owe $211.21 for July in addition to the August payment.

I tried to pay online last night and got an error message and then tried to pay again but the payment section did not come up and I saw a section that showed coverage from January 1 2024 to July 31 2024 "Termed."

I did not receive any notice that the insurance would be canceled, though I don't know if that is required in PA. I am also assuming since there was a balance from July that they canceled the insurance because it was past 31 days.

Is there any hope for getting this reinstated? I saw that I can go in person to the office in Philadelphia and pay and am planning on going down tomorrow morning. I am not the primary on the account, though. Will this be a problem? I am usually good about the bills and most/all are on autopay but I removed that for this bill while I was sorting it out over the past few months.
