Insurance Claim Denied & Bill is on Me

Long story short my PCP referred me to a cardiologist back in September of last year because he thought my heart rate went too high when I ran. In October I turned 18, and saw the cardiologist in November. They ordered a heart monitor to be worn for 3 days. I wore it and the results came back as normal.

I got notified later in February of this year saying I owed $1,500 as it was “not deemed medically necessary” and denied I have federal BCBS. At the time it said I owed nothing, but regardless I called the billing department of the cardiologist for them to send the record notes to BCBS. I kept following up on this issue for months up until 3 weeks ago. From what I was told through the BCBS was they kept denying it about 2-3 times. The claim was finally changed to me actually owing the money today. The provider is a preferred provider. Unfortunately, the time frame to make an appeal has passed.

Is there anything I can do at this point? I financially cannot pay this bill nor did I even ask for any of the tests, they sort of just did them and I was newly 18 as of like 10 days when I got them. I’m so angry and frustrated and the billing department at my cardiologist doesn’t seem to be helping whatsoever.
