Ohio Medicaid for Family of Pregnant/Postpartum

Hi All,

Looking for some guidance about Medicaid eligibility for Ohio. My husband lost his job end of 2023, I was pregnant and we received Medicaid coverage for myself, existing child, newborn, and husband. Husband started a new job at the end of January and then was injured shortly after and has not been able to work yet and will not for a few more months likely.

I know for Ohio, Medicaid coverage extends for 12 months postpartum, so the 206% of poverty level qualification applies during that time for myself. However, I can’t determine if that also applies to my husband and children. If he goes back to work, we’ll be over the 138% of poverty level. Will he and/or kids lose coverage while I retain mine?

Also, the company has proposed a settlement through workers comp which would result in a onetime lump sum payment. Not a ridiculous amount, I can’t disclose the specific number, but between $10k-20k. How would that affect the Medicaid coverage for us?

We are trying to decide if we will take the offered amount, but he will still have months of physical therapy ahead before he returns to work. If we lose coverage, then our out of pocket expenses will be much higher and the settlement amount then does not make much financial sense to take.

Thanks in advance!

Edit: To clarify, he would likely only be part-time due to physical restrictions so likely ineligible for employer health insurance. Health insurance is offered through my employer, but is about $1200 a month for a family and we can’t afford that even if hubby works part time.
