Short term insurance while I wait for my policy to be reinstated?

Starting this off by admitting I’m stupid. I forgot to change the credit card my health insurance (an individual plan, not through work) auto pays from when I got a new card and just got an email that my health insurance was cancelled because of non-payment. I called and I can ask for it to be reinstated, but I have to mail them a check and they take 30 days to decide if they’ll reinstate you.

I’m hoping it’s not problem to get reinstated since I pay like 500 a month in premiums and I do t think they’ve ever paid more than 500 total a year for me, so they’re making money off me.

I’m paranoid that I’ll get into some sort of catastrophic accident in the mean time while uninsured. My state allows short term plans. I’m 31, single, no kids, and I don’t have any pre-existing conditions (other than obesity I guess, but I pay for my zepbound and associated doctor’s visits OOP w/ the manufacturer coupon b/c my insurance doesn’t cover it anyway.) The only other things I’ve been to the doctor for in the past 5 years are: a few upper respiratory infections and stomach bugs, a bad case of ringworm, and a wart that needed to be frozen off.

Is it a good idea to get a 3 month short term policy so I have the peace of mind that no matter what I have some sort of coverage until either my insurance gets reinstated or open enrollment starts in November?
