Hi everyone,

I left my last job at the beginning of July, which means my insurance expires today, July 31. I started my new job last week, but due to pay period reasons, my new health insurance doesn't kick in until August 11. That leaves me and my wife with an 11-day gap in coverage.

Normally, people would say to chance it and get COBRA if needed, since you can apply it retroactively. However, months ago my wife signed up for several medical appointments over the uninsured 11 days that, for various reasons, are very important and cannot be moved without rescheduling them for months (bad timing, I know!). Due to her chronic health issues, that is not really an option for us.

So my question is: what would you do with this gap? I can pay the COBRA for the 11 days, but it's insanely expensive ($2,500 for a month, when I only need 11 days). Could I do marketplace? Pay out of pocket and see if they'll give a discount?

Any thoughts/insights much appreciated. Thanks in advance!
