Doc sent my blood to an out-of-network lab. Got a bill for $1150?

In June, I had an annual visit with blood draw, as I do every year. Same doctor as usual. My blood was drawn the following Tuesday as I forgot to fast the day of my annual. My doctor drew the blood Tuesday and I was off. I called back after two weeks of no calls/results from my doctor. They said that I had to come in to the office for my results. I told them I cannot get time off of work for the next month (new job; required intensive training) and they sent my results in a pdf. Flash forward to today and I get a bill for $1150 as the lab they sent the blood to was out of network. My insurance says they cannot pay any more than the $100-$200 they covered as my doctor never filed a claim for my annual (or however that works). I’m waiting to hear back from my doctors billing department as they were out of the office by the time I called. My doctor is not attached to a hospital (I think?) and I’m in Illinois. Any advice would be helpful!

Edit: I wasn’t asked what lab to send the sample to, if it matters.
