My husband and I got married April 20, I changed my plan to family health insurance and we wanted to cancel his because we were expecting a child in July too. He didn’t tell them within 30 days of marriage and his HR department told him he can only cancel within 30 days of QLE (mine was 60 days so we didn’t realize it was different.) so we just said ok we’ll cancel it when we have the baby. Well we had the baby at the end of June and my husband went back to work this week. He went to cancel his insurance and the HR lady now says it doesn’t matter about having the baby, he needs proof of the new insurance to cancel his old insurance. She says the new card isn’t good enough, and that we need “the letter” but I wasn’t sent any letter, just the new insurance cards, which is true for all 3 insurances I put him on (medical, dental, vision). How is having the baby not enough to cancel the insurance? Or the new cards not enough to cancel it?
