MassMutual names head of technology, experience

MassMutual announced that Sears Merritt will take on an expanded role and lead the company’s enterprise technology and experience organization as head of technology and experience.

In the role, Merritt will accelerate digital transformation, digital experience, platform transformation and cybersecurity, as well as provide oversight of the company’s technology and data. Merritt will report to Roger Crandall, MassMutual’s chairman, president and CEO.

“Utilizing technology and data in meaningful ways to meet our customers’ evolving needs and expectations is one of our biggest challenges and opportunities,” said Crandall, in a statement. “Since joining MassMutual, Sears has championed data-driven decision-making and tech-based solutions that have positioned MassMutual at the forefront of industry innovation, and I’m confident he will lead bold strategies that will ultimately result in a superior experience for our policyowners, customers, distribution partners, and employees.”

In the last eight years, Merritt has had several positions at MassMutual including in areas related to data science, strategy and technology. Most recently, he was head of technology and data where he helped develop the data science and analytics team.
