Network Gap Exception Request??

I recently found out I was pregnant and I am due late February. So I went online and found out that my old OBGYN is in network but the hospital they do deliveries at is not in network. So I decided to start researching other hospitals I could go to for visits and delivery… However they are all 50+ minutes away. I contacted my insurance and they said I could have my in network OBGYN submit a "Network Gap Exception form" and it would go to my insurance to be approved (within 5 business days) and hopefully if it's approved they will help cover the costs of that hospital bill. I have talked to 5 people at this OBGYN office and they all make it sound like they have never heard of this before. I am trying to get this settled so I can stay with one OBGYN from my first appointment (which is in two weeks away) all the way until delivery…. Any advice? Is there a high chance this document will be approved? Should I contact the hospital that is out of network and see what they say? This is with United Healthcare.
