The Insurance Business Canada Awards (IBCA) is returning for its ninth year, ready to celebrate excellence, innovation, and leadership in the Canadian insurance industry. This prestigious event, taking place at the Liberty Grand in Toronto this November, is your opportunity to recognize the industry’s finest.

Whether you’re a brokerage, insurer, or underwriter, this is your chance to spotlight either yourself or a deserving colleague for one of the individual or organizational awards, including Broker of the Year, CEO of the Year, Best Insurtech Firm, and Brokerage of the Year.

Want a chance to win? Don’t wait too long, as nominations close on July 19.

What does it take to win?

Sponsoring the 2024 Travelers Canada Award for Brokerage of the Year, Paul Stone, vice president of personal insurance, sales, distribution, and marketing at Travelers Canada, shared his vision for this year’s award winner.

“We all have an important role to play when it comes to the perception of our industry,” he said. “Consumers typically don’t look forward to filing a claim or obtaining a quote for insurance. We can change that; insurance does not have to be intimidating. Our industry has a responsibility to make customers feel at ease, and I hope the 2024 Brokerage of the Year embodies that same notion.”

Reflecting on what inspired Travelers Canada to sponsor the Brokerage of the Year Award, Stone added: “The award provides an opportunity to highlight the dedication and achievements of a standout company in the Canadian insurance industry. Brokers bring passion to their work every day as they strive to find the best solutions for their customers to succeed. Travelers Canada is proud to help recognize the outstanding achievements of one of the many exceptional brokerages in this country.”

For award recipients like Jo-Anne Raymond, director of commercial lines and programs at Paisley Partners, winning the Cansure Broker of the Year award at last year’s Insurance Business Canada Awards was not just about receiving a trophy. It was also a moment to savour and appreciate recognition from peers in the industry.

“Winning, for me, felt very validating,” she said. “I felt like everything that I had been doing throughout my career, like working on my designations and mentoring staff, had been recognized. It was a very humbling experience.”

Cansure, sponsoring the award for Broker of the Year again at this year’s 2024 awards ceremony, highlighted the challenges brought about by this year’s softening market. Cameron Copeland, president of SPGC (of which Cansure is a part), emphasized that the best brokers will have remained nimble and proactive.

“A top insurance broker exhibits tenacity and integrity in their approach to meeting client needs,” he said. “They are building a personal brand on being a trusted advisor, relied on for knowledge and expertise, and access to insurance options from across the marketplace.”
